Jewel – I Won’t Walk Away

I hate this song. The lyrics could be alright, I guess. But the music and the singing. No thanks. I skip it every time within the first 12 seconds. Those seconds are normally spent scrambling for the ‘Next’ button.
This is the worst bridge, too. Though at least it matches the rest of the song. One [...]

Jewel – Cleveland

I love this song, even though it reminds me of the worst 5 years of my life. The years I lived in Cleveland, and attended Case Western Reserve Univeristy. Eesh.
It’s got that twang. I feel like all Jewel’s music deserves that twang. She’s just so good at it. Another stellar bridge, perfect imagery. It’s brilliant. [...]

Jewel – This Way

This song isn’t very interesting. Even at my most sappy this song doesn’t appeal to me. That said, unlike most sappy love songs, this song doesn’t make me want to hurt myself. It gets a solid three stars for that fact.

Jewel – Serve the Ego

I don’t dig the beginning with the chimes and stuff. I also don’t like the lyrics of the beginning, or how she delivers them. Her voice isn’t throaty, so I think her attempt at foreign smokiness sounds funny.
I generally enjoy the rest of the song, excluding the parts where she says ‘Serve the ego’. She [...]

Jewel – Till We Run Out of Road

Jewel writes excellent bridges. I usually hate bridges. Vehemently. I think they ruin otherwise good songs. But Jewel rocks her bridges.
The only thing about this whole song that irks me is how long it takes her to spit out the word ‘leaving’ at the beginning of each chorus.
If Mediamonkey allowed for a 4.75 star [...]

Jewel – Do You Want to Play?

I’ve listened to this song countless times. I rather quite like it. I have no idea who Randy Newman is. All I know is once I read a review of this song that condemned the possibility of a woman strewing Randy Newman photos across her floor as highly improbable.
Onward to Wikipedia to riddle me this.
Before [...]

Jewel – Break Me

The beginning of this song suckers me in. I like how delicate Jewel’s voice is, and I like the lyrics. After the first chorus, though, she kind of loses me.
Three.five stars

Jewel – Everybody Needs Someone Sometime

This song was the first to convince me I didn’t hate country, I just loathed most of it. It’s definitive twang is lovely. When I flipped on the country radio station, though, I realized twang is not always lovely.
Five stars.

Jewel – Jesus Loves You

Freakin’ love this song. And I’m pretty sure it never got any airtime. Perhaps there’s a connection there. Five stars.

Jewel – Standing Still

Perhaps excessively radio-friendly. When I was 15 I thought this song was the bees knees. Now I realize others on the album shine greater. I don’t know. It’s boring. Love songs don’t have to be boring. They can rock out loud. Though this is more of a question song than a declaration song. So who [...]
